About Us
Specialty Fencing based in Meridian, MS began operations in 2007 and is locally owned and operated. Specialty Fencing is committed to offering excellent customer service and top quality workmanship. Owners Joel Johnson and Craig Hertel have a simple business philosophy, “treat the customer the way you want to be treated and exceed customer expectations”. They put a high priority on consistency in service and workmanship and strive to maintain excellent communication with the customer. Specialty Fencing was built on Christian principles and we strive to glorify the Lord in everything we do. God continues to bless our efforts and we will always be a testimony of His faithfulness.
Joel Johnson, President
Joel has a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology and was the Director of Jeff Anderson Health and Fitness Center for 15 years. He has always been an entrepreneur at heart and started Specialty Fencing with Craig Hertel because he enjoys serving others and loves the challenge that owning a business provides. Joel is responsible for managing the business component of Specialty Fencing – estimates, advertising, financials and customer service. Joel has always been involved in the community and has served as Chairman of the United Way as well as board member of the Meridian Little Theatre, Meridian Athletic Association and Meridian Christian Home Educators.
Joel is married to Susie McEachin Johnson and they have 3 children, Jenna, Benjamin and K.K. Susie is the Education Director at the Meridian Symphony Association and Director of Meridian Performing Arts Center (MPAC). Jenna, Benjamin and K.K. perform as Track 45 and they are regular performers on a nationally syndicated radio and tv program called The Sucarnochee Revue. Mr. Johnson and family attend Northpointe Presbyterian Church where his father-in-law Dr. John McEachin (a retired pediatrician) directs the choir.
Craig Hertel, Vice President
Craig Hertel served honorably for 10 years in the United States Marine Corps after serving as the youngest Service Manager the company ever had for Kenworth PacLease in Jackson, MS. He co-owns Specialty Fencing along with Joel and oversees installations and quality control. His years in the Marine Corps and desire to have the “best product out there” have given him a dedication to detail unsurpassed in the fencing market today.
Craig is married to Jennifer Jackson Hertel and they have five, yes five children – Joshua, Molly, Jacob, Jared and Joseph. You may even see some of the boys working on the job from time to time! The family are members of First Presbyterian Church and are active in the church in numerous activities to include teaching Sunday School and in the community volunteering with the Wesley House, Habitat for Humanity and various community programs.
